Joe Schoen is facing a tough spell in charge of the operations at the New York Giants. With the NFL Draft now done and dusted, all attention is on whether Schoen will be with the franchise as it begins the new season.
The main reason of course is the introduction of John Harbaugh as head coach. With an uneasy alliance in place for now, there appeared to be a level of positivity regarding Schoen’s future at the Giants, but that could now have faced a major setback.
According to Giants insider Pat Leonard, Schoen could be headed for the exit door, and quick.
“You go over to the Giants building and the intrigue going into and coming out of the draft is — what is going to happen to general manager Joe Schoen,” Leonard commented.
“This has been kind of the back burner, because of the excitement of the players the Giants are going to be addressing and adding and stacking to John Harbaugh’s new team. But you talk to people in the league, it feels like anything is on the board right now. There are people in the NFL who think Joe Schoen could be fired this week.”
Why Schoen Could Still Up Surviving the Storm
If you’re Joe Schoen, you need to be focused on doing everything right because his fate might not be completely sealed just yet.
Beyond Leonard’s comments that there could still be scope for an arrangement to keep Schoen in charge, John Harbaugh has actually been appreciative of some of the work done by Schoen and his staff since the new head coach arrived in January.
With new additions coming via the draft, perhaps stability might be the way to go for the New York Giants.
