“Red Is Our Color”: Brittany Mahomes Reacts to Patrick Mahomes’ $504.75M Contract Extension

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes signed an extension with the Kansas City Chiefs worth $504.75 million on Wednesday. His wife, Brittany Mahomes, celebrated the news on Thursday via a post on her Instagram account in which she and the signal-caller are seen alongside their kids clad in red Kansas City attire.

In the caption of the post, she wrote:

“Red is our color & Kansas City is our home 🙏🏼❤️.”

Mahomes’ extension is the first NFL deal to be valued at over half a million dollars, according to ESPN. The restructured contract will see him stay with the Chiefs through 2033, with Kansas City adding $239.05 million to what had already been agreed.

The entirety of the contract is guaranteed through several contract mechanisms. There’s also the possibility for Patrick Mahomes to make a further $522.25 million through incentives. The deal averages a yearly value of $64 million.

Andy Reid reacts to Patrick Mahomes’ contract extension

Chiefs coach Andy Reid was one of the first to react to the news on Thursday, telling the press that he believes that Mahomes had earned the extension and that he was happy to see him stay with the team:

“It’s great. [Mahomes] has done a great job as a professional, and then off the field as a father and husband,” Reid said. “You get the whole package there. He’s a great representative of the organization — and a heck of a player.”

Reid also gave an update on Patrick Mahomes’ injury situation.

“He’ll keep working his legs, the strength in his legs,” he said. “There’s a part where the healing process has to keep taking place. He has periodic checks on that, too. He does rehab before practice, practices and then he goes [for more rehab] after, so he’s staying on top of all of that.”

Patrick Mahomes suffered a season-ending torn ACL and LCL on Dec. 14, 2025, and had to undergo surgery the following day. The Chiefs remain hopeful that the quarterback will be back in action by Week 1 of the upcoming 2026 season, when they host the Denver Broncos for Monday Night Football.

Mahomes has overseen an era of success the Chiefs have enjoyed under Andy Reid. Since he took over starting quarterback duties in 2018, the team has won three Super Bowls, all of which he has been the MVP of. He has also been named the NFL MVP twice and the NFL Offensive Player of the Year once.

Nonetheless, the franchise is coming from its first losing season with Mahomes as quarterback, finishing the 2025 season 6-11.
