The Philadelphia Eagles are getting ready to open their voluntary minicamp on Tuesday. In preparation for the next season, they’d want all the players and coaching staff to focus on the camp.
However, their star edge Nolan Smith has gotten into some legal trouble. The 25-year-old was arrested on Friday for allegedly driving 137 mph in a 70 mph zone. He has been charged with speeding and reckless driving.
The Philadelphia Eagles star was taken into custody on Friday, May 15. This is the second time Smith has been arrested for speeding. He joined the Eagles in 2023 as their first-round, 30th overall pick and won a Super Bowl with them.
The 25-year-old played for the Georgia Bulldogs in college from 2019 to 20222. After the news of his arrest went viral, fans on social media rushed to troll Smith by using Georgia as the root of all his speeding problems.
“He a Georgia Bulldog after all,” a fan wrote.
“You can take the player out of Georgia, but you can’t take the Georgia out of the player,” a fan wrote.
“UGA boys doing what UGA boys do. Luckily no one got killed this time. #PatternRecognition,” a fan wrote.
“Even in the NFL Georgia players still aren’t beating the allegations,” a fan wrote.
“Georgia players and speeding go together like peanut butter and jelly,” a fan wrote.
“That Georgia pedigree showing up in the big leagues,” a fan wrote.
The Georgia jokes have taken over Smith’s speeding and arrest, and the repeat violation isn’t helping the Philadelphia Eagles star.
Nolan Smith Was Arrested in 2022
In January 2022, Smith was charged with two traffic violations. He was charged with speeding in a construction zone and driving on a suspended license. The Philadelphia Eagles star was arrested outside of Athens.
“According to Weiszer, Smith was charged with speeding in a construction zone and driving on a suspended license. He was reportedly going 89 miles per hour, 44 miles per hour over the limit, while traveling through Barrow County on his way home from the airport in Atlanta,” On3’s Jonathan Wagner reported.
“Both of Smith’s chargers were misdemeanors, and he was released shortly after being brought in. His license had been suspended since January 19, 2021. At the time of his arrest, Smith reportedly said that he was getting his license reinstated the next day.”
The Philadelphia Eagles have not stated his recent arrest yet.
