George Kittle just watched his rival Seattle Seahawks win a Super Bowl in Levi’s Stadium, and the hits keep coming. With the San Francisco 49ers scheduled to travel to Mexico for one of its 2026 games, the tight end apparently felt the need to vent.
According to OurSF49ers on X in a Thursday post, Kittle posted a message on Instagram voicing his displeasure with the assignment.
“Another one,” Kittle posted.
The post showed a picture of a frustrated Nacho Libre, seemingly communicating that the assignment wasn’t the end of the world, but not one taken with 100% enthusiasm. Curiously, the Apple Maps screenshot of the route between San Francisco and Mexico City was set to walking directions.
The choice to keep the walking instructions didn’t appear to communicate anything special, as there is no chance the 49ers would force the team to walk to Mexico City under any circumstance.
Kittle’s frustration sets a notable tone heading into the next friction point between himself and San Francisco.
George Kittle Enters Contract Negotiation Window
According to Spotrac, George Kittle is still under contract through the 2029 season. However, 2026 will be Kittle’s last season in which he will have a financial shield against being released.
Starting in 2027, the San Francisco 49ers will be able to save money by moving on from the $76.4 million deal, and the pressure on Kittle to perform will only increase.
As such, at some point in 2026, Kittle will have every reason to restart talks and increase the runway on how long he has before he needs to worry about losing his shield.
However, heading into an age 33 season after a year that was defined by injuries and a receiving yard total drop of nearly 500 yards, Kittle might have an uphill battle with the 49ers.
Will 2026 be Kittle’s last protected season?
