Fans Think Lamar Jackson’s Spot Is in Danger as Ravens Make Diego Pavia Decision

Lamar Jackson has been with the Baltimore Ravens since being drafted 32nd overall in 2018. However, despite winning two MVP awards, the quarterback has yet to make a Super Bowl appearance.

After failing to make the playoffs last season, there has been some uncertainty regarding Jackson’s future with the franchise. According to reports, the Ravens have invited the 2025 Heisman finalist Diego Pavia to the team’s rookie minicamp. Despite the quarterback’s impressive campaign with Vanderbilt last season, he went undrafted in the draft.

Following this decision, social media started flooding with various reactions questioning if Lamar Jackson’s spot as the team’s QB1 is in danger.

“Oh s**t he’s there for Lamar’s job!!! I’m sure some Lamar hating idiots out there are saying this,” one fan commented.

“Better be glad Lamar hit that taco truck on cloud 9,” another fan said.

“Hey Lamar… we’re good. Diego Pavia is here,” a fan wrote.

“Lamar Jackson’s job is in danger, Diego didn’t come to take part, he came to take over,” one fan claimed.

“Lamar quaking in his boots,” another fan wrote.

Diego Pavia was impressive last season with Vanderbilt. He recorded 3,539 yards and 29 TDs passing, leading the program to its first 10-win campaign. He was the Heisman runner-up behind Fernando Mendoza, who went first overall to the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Ravens begin a new era this year under new coach Jesse Minter. John Harbaugh was fired in January despite signing a three-year extension last March. He then took over as the head coach of the New York Giants.

Lamar Jackson’s 2025 campaign was riddled with injuries. This limited him to just 13 games where he recorded 2,549 yards passing and 21 TDs, while the Ravens put up an 8-9 record.

Ravens coach Jesse Minter shares his honest thoughts on Lamar Jackson

Before the draft, Jesse Minter came forward to discuss Lamar Jackson. He did not shy away from revealing his expectations for the quarterback this upcoming season.

“I think he’s in a great place,” Minter said during an interview with ESPN’s Kevin Clark (5:40). “He’s excited about the kind of a new offense and learning some new stuff. So, mentally, he’s in a great place. He’s an MVP-caliber player, and he’s one, if not the top quarterback in the National Football League.”

“I think there’s just things that we’re looking at to help him improve. Like, his improvements are gonna be really small, maybe not noticeable by the viewers. But if he can make some of these real small gains, I think he can continue to play at the highest level,” he added.

Jackson has two years remaining on the five-year, $260 million extension he signed in 2023. The Ravens restructured his contract in March to create salary cap space for the upcoming season.
