Bad Bunny will take the stage tonight for the Super Bowl Halftime Show. There have already been plenty of controversies surrounding him, and the NFL’s decision to hand him the biggest stage in American sports.
Those who aren’t interested in watching the halftime show have their reasons, but there are some who have taken things too far on their quest to trash Bad Bunny.
Earlier today, a fake image of the Puerto Rican rapper and singer went viral. In the artificially created image, the artist was seen burning the US flag on stage. Some football fans believed that the image was real.
After the fake image spread like wildfire, multiple fact checks proved that the picture wasn’t real. Hours later, there’s another controversy bubbling on the internet. This time, some fans are claiming that Bad Bunny disrespected the national anthem.
“Bad Bunny disrespect our National Anthem by not standing and he wants us to watch his halftime show? Nope,” a popular page on X posted with a clip.
In the clip, Bad Bunny could be seen sitting down and having a conversation with someone next to him. The fans on the internet claimed that he was doing so while the national anthem was being sung on the field.
This doesn’t even require thorough fact-checking. Even if you listen to the audio in the clip, it’s obvious that it wasn’t the national anthem playing in the background. The performers on the field were singing ‘God Bless America.’
Even though there’s a patriotic significance attached to the song, it’s not the American national anthem. This was another attempt from the naysayers to show Bad Bunny in a negative light.
Bad Bunny Called Out ICE During His Grammy Speech
Bad Bunny won several awards at the 68th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, including the Grammy for album of the year. During his acceptance speech, he devoted some time to talking about something that’s very close to him.
At a time when the illegal immigration crackdown has divided the nation, Bad Bunny took the stage to call out ICE.
“Before I say thanks to god, I’m gonna say ICE out,” he said.
After that, Bad Bunny urged people to be more compassionate toward others because that is what makes us human.
“We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens, we are humans, and we are Americans,” he continued. “The hate gets more powerful with more hate. The only thing that is more powerful than hate is love.”
His speech was taken as a dig at those in support of ICE. Since then, the outrage against Bad Bunny has elevated to another level.
