Dianna Russini’s long-term affair with New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel coming to light caused a major stir in the NFL world. The backlash from fans all around ultimately led to Russini stepping down from her position at The Athletic.
However, weeks after Russini made her decision public, an old friend sent a clear message to the former insider. Speaking on his podcast ‘Big Stuey’, host Jon ‘Stugotz’ Weiner has offered Russini a position with his team.
“I did say if The Athletic fired her, I would hire her. They didn’t fire her. She stepped down from The Athletic, and the offer holds forever. If Dianna Russini decides one day, three months from now, a year from now, two years from now, that she wants to get back into this game, she has a place right here.”
While the Athletic did not in fact fire Russini, Weiner spoke on being welcoming to the former Athletic insider with open arms whenever she returns to the NFL media. Weiner also made his feelings very clear on his friendship with Russini, highlighting the support they’ve shown for each other previously.
“She has been great to me, I will say that on the front end. She has been great to me. She has been there for me at times when I have needed her to be there for me. She is warm, she’s compassionate. I love her, and I don’t care what happens moving forward. I will continue to be her friend. I’ll continue to support her. I’ll continue to love Dianna Russini.”
Russini was a regular guest on Weiner’s podcast, as evidenced by multiple clips of her interviews resurfacing online as the scandal with Mike Vrabel unfolded.

While the timing of Mike Vrabel’s affair with Diana Russini coming to light coincided with the NFL Draft, Patriots QB Drake Maye has finally opened up on the entire saga and its impact on the New England locker room.
Maye expressed his full support for his head coach, claiming the locker room is behind their coach during this time. The 23-year-old spoke to WHDH-TV 7News in Boston:
“Yeah, we’re here for Coach, we love Coach. What he does for us, what he’s done for us this past year, you can’t speak into words, and just thankful he’s our head coach.”
This came amid Vrabel’s “24-hour emergency marriage summit with wife in Utah” as photos of the head coach’s meetings with Russini were published by Page Six.
