Shedeur Sanders was recently selected for his first Pro Bowl honor. Although he didn’t make the initial list, Sanders was chosen as Drake Maye’s replacement, as the New England Patriots quarterback is headed to the Super Bowl.
Sanders’ inclusion in the Pro Bowl ruffled a lot of feathers. Many believe he didn’t earn his spot, and he was undeserving of the same. The naysayers had their reason.
The Cleveland Browns quarterback didn’t play in the majority of the season. He was the backup quarterback behind Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel and had no game time in the first stretch. His numbers for the season don’t help his case.
Sanders finished the season with 1400 yards, seven touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in eight games. He had his moments, like the 364 yards against the Tennessee Titans, but nothing can be termed extraordinary.
Recently, his father, Deion Sanders, commented on his son making the Pro Bowl. Deion stated that it took him three seasons to get his first Pro Bowl honor, and his son has done it in his rookie season.
“My son did something that I didn’t do,” Deion SAID. “He made the Pro Bowl in his first year. I made it in my third year. But he made it in his first year, so he got that over me right now.”
Deion has never cared what critics have to say. He’s following the same principle when it comes to criticism directed toward his son. Shedeur has achieved something that’s worth celebrating, and he’s only focusing on the positives.
Deion Sanders on Shedeur’s Redemption
Shedeur was expected to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Many experts had predicted that he would easily make the first round and garner interest from several teams. When the draft happened, everyone was shocked.
Shedeur slipped to the fifth round, eventually being picked up by the Browns as their 144th pick in the draft. When Deion was asked about his son’s redemption in this season and whether his good performances were “I told you so” moments for him, he gave all praise to god.
“It’s more like a not ‘I told you so’ moment,” Deion said. “It’s more like a God-is-good moment. Y’all don’t understand what I’m on. Like, y’all don’t understand who got my back. Y’all don’t understand who got me. Y’all don’t understand who propelled me. That’s what it is. And we like that.”
Deion is too busy being proud of his son, realizing his NFL dreams, and making his own name. He has no time to entertain the naysayers and the critics of Shedeur who think he doesn’t deserve the honor and attention he’s receiving.
