Prior to the 2024 NFL Trade Deadline, the Washington Commanders acquired cornerback Marshon Lattimore from the New Orleans Saints.
The Commanders sent the Saints its 2025 third, fourth, and sixth-round picks for Lattimore and the Saints’ 2025 fifth-round pick. He was inactive for the first four games of the 2024 season nursing a hamstring injury. This past season, Lattimore tore his ACL in Week 9, forcing him to miss the rest of the season after playing in just nine games.
As free agency kicks off next week, the Commanders have informed Lattimore that he will be released before the start of the new league year. The move will free up $18.5 million in cap space for the Commanders for the 2026-2027 season.
Lattimore‘s time in Washington fell short of expectations. He played in just 11 total games and allowed a passer-rating of 93.3 this past season, which was the second-lowest of his career.
Marshon Lattimore Isn’t The Only Veteran The Commanders Could Move On From
Each offseason, teams make many moves to its rosters whether it’s releasing players, trading/acquiring players, or restructuring deals. Another veteran that the Commanders are expected to move on from is wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
According to multiple reports, Samuel is expected not to return to the Commanders this upcoming season. Samuel, is a free agent and will be free to negotiate/sign with any team once the new league year begins next season.
Samuel joined the Commanders prior to last season as the Commanders traded the San Francisco 49ers a fifth-round pick for him. A week later, the team guaranteed him $17 million for the season with an additional $3 million in incentives.
Samuel had 72 receptions for 727 receiving yards, and five receiving touchdowns last season.
