“He’s Not Spicy”: Colin Cowherd Makes Thoughts Extremely Clear on No. 1 Overall Pick Fernando Mendoza

Fernando Mendoza finally secured his place as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, something that almost all fans and analysts already knew was coming, as the decision was set in stone months in advance.

Many individuals find Mendoza boring as he isn’t a lot like various quarterbacks out there; he isn’t flashy, he doesn’t wear jewellery, speaks humbly with everybody, and is a devout Christian.

While he may be “boring” off the field, Mendoza has proven his ability on the field time and time again, winning the Heisman Trophy and winning the national championship with an undefeated record.

Colin Cowherd shared his thoughts on Mendoza after he got drafted by the Raiders and questioned if people have forgotten what a good quarterback looks like, and highlighted how he never liked the “cool” quarterbacks like Johnny Manziel, Baker Mayfield, and more.

“Nobody pulls out their phone and says, Yo, look at these fundamentals. Have you seen this guy’s tangibles? But he’s athletic enough to escape, but maybe not flashy enough for you to remember it. There’s no jukes, no trending clips. The media needs a story because cool is easy to write and attitude is easy to sell. Mendoza sort of exposes the truth. It’s not him, it’s us. He’s not spicy, he’s the whole meal prep plan,” he said.

“Chicken, rice, and results. No sunglasses, no sideline brand building, just third and seven conversions. High floor, quiet ceiling. Making the right read so often, it feels like nothing happened. Never the problem, rarely the storyline. My only concern with Mendoza is the Raiders, and we don’t even have to go there. So, we don’t have a Mendoza problem. I think some of it’s a taste problem. We keep ordering spicy and forgetting what good tastes like,” Cowherd added.

Why Didn’t Fernando Mendoza Attend the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh?

Being the No. 1 overall draft pick is a feeling a player can hardly ever forget, and experiencing it from the main event, which was in Pittsburgh, this time would be a whole other feeling where you get to hear your name called on the stage.

However, Fernando Mendoza chose to spend the most important day of his life at home, which is in Miami, with his family. The reason that Mendoza chose to have his draft party in Miami instead of Pittsburgh was his mom Elsa’s illness.

Elsa has multiple sclerosis, which makes traveling a lot harder, especially because she uses a wheelchair to move.
