CJ Gardner-Johnson Confirms Retirement Plan and Next Job as NFL Career Hits Crucial Point

CJ Gardner-Johnson started his NFL career in 2019. Before that, he used to represent the Florida Gators basketball program from 2016 to 2018. CJ played safety for the Gators and appeared for the NFL Draft in 2019.

He was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the 2019 NFL Draft as their fourth round, 105th overall pick. He had a three-year run with New Orleans before he moved out and joined the Philadelphia Eagles.

CJ hasn’t found stability since he left New Orleans. Since 2022, he has played for five different teams and has had two different stints with the Philadelphia Eagles. He’s currently signed to the Chicago Bears.

Despite that, CJ has shown that he’s valuable, and the teams showing interest in him prove that point. In a league where the average career span is just over three years, the safety has been active for the last eight years.

Now he has started to think about his retirement. It’s not going to be immediate, as CJ believes he still has four more years of football left in him. The safety talked about his plans during a recent live stream.

“I’m retiring in four years. F**k it. News flash, I’m done in four years, I’m out this b*tch, four-five years,” he said. “Win the Super Bowl, make some money, turn another city up, and then I’m out.”

CJ has started to plan his post-retirement life. He said that he has signed three life-changing deals, including a $30 million deal. So, at this point, he’s no longer in it for money. He’s playing because he enjoys the game.

After retirement, however, CJ plans on becoming a full-time streamer.

“I got kids to take care of,” he said. “I’m trying to be free and stream my life.”

He believes that streamers have “the best life” as they don’t have to abide by a lot of rules within their line of work. The safety said that it’ll be ideal for him.

CJ Gardner-Johnson Could Possibly Return to Philadelphia

The Philadelphia Eagles hold a special place in CJ’s career. He played for the Eagles during their 2024 Super Bowl-winning season. That was his second stint in Philadelphia after the one he had in 2022.

He’s with the Chicago Bears right now, but CJ is willing to leave Chicago and reunite with his former team.

“Hell yeah,” he recently said about the idea of returning to Philadelphia. “Tell the boys to get with me.”

Philadelphia is looking for a new safety, and CJ could be what they need because not only does he bring experience, but he also knows the organization well from his past stints.
