Christian Gonzalez’s New England Patriots will take on the Houston Texans in the NFL Divisional Round matchup. The Patriots will host the Texans, who are coming off a blowout win, at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.
In the Wild Card Round, the Texans played the Pittsburgh Steelers and walked away with a 30-6 win. They had a 23-0 second-half run and didn’t allow the Steelers to make any real impact in the game.
That win proved that the Texans aren’t to be taken lightly. Heading into today’s game, the Patriots must have worked on their defense to avoid such an onslaught. Christian Gonzalez’s presence becomes even more necessary in order for the Patriots to do that.
So, is Christian Gonzalez playing today against the Texans? Yes. The cornerback has cleared concussion protocol and will play in today’s Divisional Round matchup.
Gonzalez suffered a head injury when the Patriots faced the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card Round. He was immediately taken out of the game. That raised concerns over his availability in the next round.
The Patriots won the game 16-3, but the question still remained: Will Gonzalez be ready for the next game? Throughout the week, he showed progress during the team’s practice sessions. Earlier, he was a limited participant.
By Thursday, Gonzalez was completely ready and was a full participant during practice. Although coach Mike Vrabel told the media that the CB would be questionable for the game, he wasn’t featured on the team’s recent injury report.
All details surrounding Gonzalez point to him being ready to play today. With the game being just hours away now, Patriots fans can take a sigh of relief because Gonzalez will take the field and once again be the anchor of their defense.
Injury Report for the Patriots vs Texans Matchup
A positive sign for the Patriots is that only two players are mentioned on the injury report. Both players are listed as questionable for the game. Which means, they can still play, but it’ll be a game-time decision.
RB Terrell Jennings and LB Harold Landry III are the two Patriots on the report. The Texans, on the other hand, have more to worry about. Two of their best wide receivers are listed as out on the injury report.
Nico Collins and Justin Watson are out due to concussion protocol. OT Trent Brown is listed as questionable due to an ankle issue. Despite that, the Texans will not make this an easy outing for the Patriots because they have a deep roster, and underestimating them might be the biggest mistake one could make.
