George Kittle is the newest San Francisco 49ers star to join the list of injured players. The 49ers have struggled with injuries throughout the season, with Kittle himself missing games due to hamstring and ankle issues.
Despite the injuries, the 49ers have managed to put up a decent season so far. They recorded 12 wins and just five losses in the regular season. They defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 23-19 in the Wild Card Round.
Their next challenge will be against the Seattle Seahawks in the Divisional Round matchup on Saturday. The 49ers have managed to progress through the season despite constant setbacks due to injuries. But can they do it again this weekend?
That’s a question that will be answered on Saturday. For now, the 49ers are without several key players, which will impact their strategy and force them to come up with a new plan of action.
What Happened to George Kittle?
During the Wild Card Round matchup against the Eagles, Kittle suffered an injury while making a six-yard reception. The 49ers ended up winning the game 23-19 and qualified for the Divisional Round, but Kittle’s season was over.
Soon, it was revealed that he tore his Achilles tendon and was placed on injured reserve.
“Football sucks sometimes,” Kittle wrote in his Instagram POST. “But I love it. I love these guys and this team. Heartbroken but have felt so much love and support from everyone reaching out. I’ll be good. Thank you. We aren’t done yet! Also when your team owner is the first person to meet you in the locker room, you know you’re in a special place. Cheers, all my love.”
The usual recovery timeline for a torn Achilles is nine to 12 months. In that case, Kittle will not only miss the remainder of this season but also a big part of the next season as well. He’ll likely return around October.
However, after being inactive for months, Kittle wouldn’t be able to jump right back in immediately. He’ll need proper conditioning, game practice, and training before he can be included back in the lineup again.
So, keeping all that in mind, it’s unlikely that we will see Kittle play for the 49ers in the year 2026. If he manages to come back in the next season, it’ll likely be around the same time next year, considering the 49ers make the playoffs again.
