Terry Rozier was caught in gambling issues last year in October, as the NBA decided to investigate the matter. The Miami Heat player has been suspended for this season, but new evidence has come to light now.
Betting on sports in which a player is directly involved is not allowed, as it dilutes the ethics and spirit of competition. The league also conducts a self-investigation into such issues through the law firm Watchtell, Lipton, Rosen and Katz, to uncover the truth and punish involved parties. However, Rozier’s case was clear and was reported to be free of any major wrongdoings until now, as new information has been found.
As per a report by The Athletic analysts, Joe Vardon and Mike Vorkunov:
“Wachtell lawyers had access to Rozier and his phone and found that he texted someone that he would come out of a game, according to multiple people briefed on the investigations, but they could not compel others outside the NBA to participate in the investigation. Federal prosecutors had no such restriction.”
Its unsure how the NBA will decide to pursue the new findings and whether Terry Rozier will be punished for his actions if found true. However, the revelation has raised questions about the NBA’s efficiency in uncovering the truth and its credibility.
Betting on sports has been a regular topic of discussion in the NBA, as players get involved in gambling and investments in such companies. Recently, Giannis Antetoukounmpo also became part of the predictions market.
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s recent investment raises eyebrows amid the Terry Rozier drama
Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo announced his investment in the predictions market, as he joined Kalshi, a sportsbook brand for real events, as a shareholder. He shared the news on X and wrote:
“We all on @Kalshi now”
Unlike the NBA, the NFL doesn’t allow its players to get involved with betting companies. However, the NBA doesn’t allow players to trade in the predictions market on topics involving their sport. This rule also applies to Antetokounmpo.
