The question of LeBron James’ future has given birth to numerous rumors and “insider reports” on social media, but it remains unanswered. Multiple sources recently seemed convinced that the four-time NBA champion would move to the Miami Heat next season. However, sports writer and podcaster Bill Simmons still believes that King James will return home.
The Cavaliers have been one of the frontrunners in pursuing James, but he seems to be taking his time with the decision. On the “Bill Simmons Podcast,” the analyst expressed his feelings and said he would still bet on the star forward moving back to Cleveland. He said:
“I would still bet on Cleveland, I think that’s gonna happen, I think they’re just trying to figure out how to get him on the team where they don’t have to just pay him the minimum.”
James’ salary would seemingly operate in the mid-level exceptions, around $15 million minimum next season. While that has lured several teams to try their luck in landing the free agent, the Cavaliers, who have around 25 million remaining under their First Apron sealing, might be able to offer him the best deal. The management would have to sign more pieces, though, after Dean Wade and Keon Ellis’ exit.
Meanwhile, the Heat are also reportedly looking to sign DeMar DeRozan, which will end their search for an effective frontcourt piece. Regardless, LeBron James is not desperate to make a decision, even though NBA Commissioner Adam Silver requested to speed up.
NBA analyst believes LeBron James doesn’t care about the schedule
Considering the impact of LeBron James on the league, a lot of decisions like the Christmas games, New Year games, and others are made with him in mind. Talking at the CNBC Sport x Boardroom: Game Plan Summit, during the Fanatics Fest on Thursday, commissioner Adam Silver said, via ESPN:
“Where LeBron plays will affect the schedule. So, I would like him to make his announcement already, so we can finish the schedule. Because, as you might imagine, the teams are calling us, the networks are calling us, and everybody wants to lock in the schedule.”
However, analyst Brian Windhorst quashed Silver’s demands for a quick decision and claimed that James won’t care about the schedule and will take his time. On ESPN, he said:
“This is one thing I can say with confidence, LeBron does not care about holding the league up with its schedule. He will make them wait.”
Chances are high that fans see an emotional reunion in Cleveland if LeBron James decides to pursue the fifth ring with the Cavs. The team looks good and has made consecutive postseasons. All it needs is veteran leadership, and who better than King James?
