Players’ participation and investment in betting apps and other similar businesses have again come under the spotlight after the Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo was reported to have invested in a betting company. The forward announced that he has become a shareholder in Kalshi, one of the largest brands in the predictions market that allows users to bet on real events, sports, politics, and economic developments.
Most sports organizations have regulations for players involved in such activities or businesses. However, the NBA has not had any such rules that allowed the Greek Freak to invest in Kalshi. However, fans wonder whether an NFL athlete can do the same thing.
The answer is no. In an email to Pro Football Talk, chief NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy stated:
“NFL players may not own a stake.”
Additionally, the company also doesn’t allow players to trade in the predictions market on topics involving their sport. This rule also applies to Antetokounmpo.
Giannis also has several investments and partnerships with other brands like Nike. On the court, the Bucks forward is currently out of the team due to a calf strain, but he has had an efficient season thus far, shooting a career-high 64.5% from the field. That even led to his 10th All-Star selection this season, and the Bucks management gave a fitting tribute to its star.
The Bucks give tribute to Giannis Antetokounmpo on his 10th All-Star nod
Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks squad did go through a rough patch earlier in this season, as the Bucks star believed that the team chemistry was missing and the players were playing “selfishly.” However, it seems the water is under the bridge now, as Giannis was recently given a tribute by the home crowd on his 10th All-Star selection.
Bucks wingman Bobby Portis led the honor, and the NBA shared the video on Instagram:
There is no confirmation on Giannis’ return yet, but the Bucks’ season might have gotten derailed to the point of no return. However, enough games remain for the team to make a final push for play-ins and give itself a chance at the playoffs.
While fans and analysts are divided on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future in the league, the Bucks superstar’s wish to be in Milwaukee has been granted for now. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the offseason.
