Yaxel Lendeborg has given the perfect trailer to his bag of skills in the NBA Summer League. The Golden State Warriors defeated the Memphis Grizzlies in the championship game, as the Warriors rookie led the team to a 94-90 comeback victory. Lendeborg was awarded the MVP of the game. After his impressive run, LeBron James’ friend, CuffsTheLegend (username on X), shared his feelings on the rookie.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr’s relationship with young players wasn’t the best during the 2025-26 season. Some sources suggested there was a rift between Jonathan Kuminga and the coach over the former’s playing minutes. James’ friend highlighted this in his comments on the Warriors HC. He wrote:
“Yaxel is ready to contribute to the Warriors from Day 1 and Steve Kerr better not try to put the training wheels on him like he’s been known to do with other rookies/young players!
Let Yaxel rock out in Golden State!”
Lendeborg scored 21 points and 10 rebounds, along with two steals, in the final game in 23 minutes, shooting 9-18 from the field and 2-6 from deep. He matched up against the third overall draft pick, Cameron Boozer, who scored 19 points, eight rebounds, and two steals and dominated the game.
It won’t be an overestimation to state that the franchise seems to have landed a jackpot with the ninth overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. A mentor like Steph Curry would be everything he needs right now. Given that the Warriors are also in pursuit of James, getting to play with the Steph Curry-LeBron James duo can be a career-altering period of learning for the rookie.
All that the HC needs to do is give Lendeborg enough opportunities and playing time to settle into the pace. He has shown he has a lot to offer once he gets comfortable.
Yaxel Lendeborg Wanted “Revenge” Against Cameron Boozer
Yaxel Lendeborg lost the last game the Grizzlies and the Warriors played in the league, and that would surely have been on his mind. After the game, he highlighted how important it was for him to win the matchup against Boozer. He said:
“I think about [revenge] every time I play him. Every game we play, them refs be saving him. … It is a competitive nature [with] everybody that gets drafted ahead of me.”
The Warriors are still looking for some shooting prowess on the squad, and Yaxel Lendeborg’s addition would be like a breath of fresh air. He can shoot the ball from deep, drive to the basket and his ability to anticipate rebounds and go for putbacks will immensely help the team. Moreover, he can defend big players in the paint.
