A few days ago, Eddie Johnson was defending LeBron James in the never-ending GOAT debate. Now, the former Sixth Man of the Year is touting the defensive greatness of a Hall of Famer at the expense of the King.
According to Johnson, who works as a Phoenix Suns color commentator and radio host for SiriusXM, James would have a hard time being effective against five-time NBA champion Dennis Rodman.
James and Rodman never crossed paths in the NBA, as The Worm retired in 2000, three years before LBJ was drafted first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Still, a hoops savant like James would have to admit that Rodman was a force to be reckoned with on the defensive end. Though the 6-foot-7 Rodman gave up a few inches in height to his bigger opponents in the paint, his tenacity and high basketball IQ helped him hold his own in the rough play of the 80s and 90s.
Rodman’s trophy case also bears testament to his prowess as a defender. In his 14-year NBA career, Rodman made the All-Defensive Team eight times while also winning the Defensive Player of the Year award in back-to-back years (1990 and 1991). On top of this, Rodman led the league in rebounding from 1992 to 1998.
While James has dismantled all sorts of defenders fielded against him, the scenario with Rodman is an interesting “what if” matchup that can only play out in video games. But for Johnson, who played against Rodman in the 90s, the outcome of that matchup is crystal clear.

Another subject of speculation at the moment is LeBron James’ next landing spot. Even after blockbuster trades like the Giannis Antetokounmpo deal and the Jaylen Brown development, James still has not announced his next move after leaving the LA Lakers.
On Monday, ESPN’s Shams Charania gave an update that wasn’t exactly pleasing to the ears of LBJ fans.
“I spoke to Rich Paul, his longtime agent, this morning. Rich Paul made it clear to me that the choice is LeBron James’ right now…There is no decision, no choice yet, no timetable on a choice.”
Charania added that, as far as teams making their pitch to land James, all the interested parties have “made their moves.” Now, it’s a matter of waiting for the four-time NBA champion to announce his decision.
