Draymond Green Slams ‘Dumba**’ 65-Game Rule as Cade Cunningham Faces All-NBA Snub Despite Stellar MVP-Caliber Season

Cade Cunningham will be indefinitely out of the team after suffering a collapsed lung in the Detroit Pistons’ last game against the Washington Wizards. He would seemingly lose the 65-game eligibility for NBA awards due to the injury, which has led to criticism of the rule across the league. Now, Draymond Green has also expressed his views on the matter.

Featuring on The Draymond Green Show, the Golden State Warriors forward backed Cunningham’s stellar 2025-26 season and launched a rant on the 65-game rule and said:

“It just doesn’t fix the issue. Like it does not fix the issue at all. And so here’s a guy who’s done everything right, has a collapsed lung, and he’s going to miss All-NBA because this dumba** rule that does not fix the issue. It’s just ridiculous. So here we go again with these unintended consequences.”

Cunningham has averaged 24.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 9.9 assists, leading the franchise in PPG and APG. Coupled with the team’s top-notch defense this season, the Pistons have captured the top seed in the Eastern Conference. Cunningham has averaged 1.5 steals per game.

Pistons continue to win without Cade Cunningham

The Pistons won their last back-to-back games against the Wizards, the last one by 117-95, as the second All-Star of the team, Jalen Duren, took up the responsibility after Cade Cunningham. He led the team with a 24 -11 double-double.

With a 109.0 defensive rating, the Pistons have played some good basketball on the defensive end. Meanwhile, Cunningham’s absence will be key for someone like Ausar Thompson. While he has already established himself as an impactful defender, he has an opportunity to open up his game with more space on the offensive end.

There might not be enough games in the regular season for the Boston Celtics, who are four games behind, to come and take the top seed, but if Cade Cunningham’s injury persists, it could be a blessing in disguise for the Celtics. With Jayson Tatum back in the rotation, the Celtics will be at their top game with a championship-winning squad to contend for the conference seat.
