As the world awaits LeBron James’ decision on his next landing spot, his name continues to figure in the GOAT debate among fans and analysts alike. This weekend, one former NBA player-turned-radio host reacted to a viral take earlier this year involving James, Michael Jordan, and Kobe Bryant.
On Sunday, former Sixth Man of the Year Eddie Johnson expressed his disappointment with Reggie Miller’s opinion about James being ranked below Jordan and Bryant on the list of all-time greats. Though Miller credited James for having “the best career,” thanks in part to his longevity, he ultimately argued that Jordan and Bryant were better players than LBJ.
“Amazing how longevity is an advantage when most of us that played past our basketball years was a shell of our selves and now LBJ is overlooked because he is a machine at 41 going on 42. That counts,” Johnson tweeted.
Among the many records that James holds, no other player has played 23 seasons in the NBA. James, who is also the league’s all-time leader in career points, pulled off this feat in the 2025-26 campaign.
This coming season, James can move the goalposts further by playing an unprecedented Year 24. If he joins a championship contender and wins a fifth ring in 2027, the dynamics of the GOAT debate could change once more.

To date, however, there is still no certainty regarding LeBron James’ next destination.
On Sunday’s episode of “The Bill Simmons Podcast,” analyst Bill Simmons relayed his prediction, choosing one of the three teams that ESPN’s Shams Charania has identified as the most likely landing spots for James.
“I would still bet on Cleveland, I think that’s gonna happen, I think they’re just tying to figure out how to get him on the team where they don’t have to just pay him the minimum.”
Charania also reported that the Philadelphia 76ers and the Miami Heat are in the running, while the Golden State Warriors and the Minnesota Timberwolves are a step behind in the LBJ sweepstakes.
