3 Warriors Who Likely Won’t Be Back Next Season

The Golden State Warriors might undergo a slew of changes in the offseason. The franchise has re-signed head coach Steve Kerr, paving the way for Steph Curry and Draymond Green to return to the team. However, some players are expected not to extend their deals with the team next season.

Let’s look at three such players who might not re-sign with the squad.

    #1. De’Anthony Melton

De’Anthony Melton had one of his best seasons in the league, as he averaged 12.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.6 steals. However, rumors suggest that the franchise might not bring back the guard next season. He was on a two-year, $6.5 million contract with the Warriors and has a player option for the next season.

NBA Base shared a post on X, via insider Tim Kawakami, and wrote:

“The Golden State Warriors are unlikely to bid high on De’Anthony Melton if he declines his player option.”

Melton is due an extension this offseason, but the team might reportedly not bid big on him. Moreover, the above post mentioned another name who might not return next season: Steph Curry’s brother, Seth Curry.

    #2. Seth Curry

Seth Curry, who went undrafted in 2013, did not enjoy the same career trajectory as his superstar brother. The above post suggested that the Warriors might not give him a roster spot next season. He averaged 7.1 points in 10 games. Interestingly, his long-range shooting percentage has remained consistently good.

    #3. Al Horford

Tim Kawakami also stated in his report that the Warriors might not want to sign both Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford next season. However, Porzingis, who will now be an unrestricted free agent, has shown some good chemistry with the team.

With Green as the only crucial frontcourt piece in the paint, Porzingis, who averaged 16.7 points and 5.2 rebounds, added size on the perimeter and helped them in several situations. Horford, on the other hand, had a lesser impact but enjoyed some good moments with the team.

The Warriors might want to keep Porzingis if they have to choose one between the two.
