LeBron James Free Agency Heats Up as Teams Send Voice Messages Through Rich Paul

The LeBron James rumor mill shows no signs of slowing down, and with new information surfacing seemingly by the hour, his next destination has become one of the biggest storylines of the offseason.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Thursday that teams are calling James’ agent, Rich Paul, to express interest. While Charania did not identify the teams, he revealed that some organizations have gone beyond traditional phone calls by recording personal voice messages for James through Paul.

“Some of the leading suitors… have been able to send a voice note to LeBron James via Rich Paul. Whether it’s an owner, a president, or a general manager, they’ve been able to record a voice note,” Charania said.

James became the top unrestricted free agent on the market after opting out of his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he spent the past eight seasons. However, any team hoping to sign the 41-year-old will need enough salary cap flexibility to make a competitive offer.

On Saturday, Rich Paul identified the Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks, San Antonio Spurs, and Golden State Warriors as potential landing spots for James. Perhaps they are among those making inquiries.

NBA Insider Gives Latest Update on Where LeBron James Could Be Headed

While speculation continues to build over where LeBron James could play next season, a new team has reportedly emerged as a potential landing spot.

According to NBA insider Adam Schefter, a return to the Miami Heat could be an ideal fit for James.

“I still think he’s going to end up in Miami,” Schefter said on Thursday. “I had somebody text me at the outset of free agency, ‘You might want to check into LeBron and Miami,’ like right away. I think people are overlooking this. He has become a rabid golf fan. Where could he play golf all the time? In Miami.”

James spent four seasons with the Heat, leading the franchise to four consecutive NBA Finals appearances while winning back-to-back NBA championships. During his time in Miami, he averaged 26.9 points, 7.6 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game.

If the Heat were to land James, he would fit seamlessly alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bam Adebayo and Andrew Wiggins. His versatility on both ends of the floor would also make him a natural fit at power forward as Miami looks to strengthen its championship aspirations.
