NASCAR legend Mark Martin turned 67 on January 9, and his son Matthew Martin wished him well with a heart-touching message on social media, calling himself a number one fan of his father. Martin is regarded as one of the greatest drivers of all time.
Martin has raced the majority of his NASCAR Cup Series career behind the wheel of the #6 Ford for Roush Racing (now known as RFK Racing). He secured 40 Cup career victories, 35 of which were scored with Roush Racing. He came close to lifting his first Cup title five times but ended up finishing runner-up in the final championship standings. He was inducted into NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2017.
Matthew, who also raced stock cars at younger levels and now helps manage his father’s legacy through projects like the “Mark Martin Archive” on Instagram, posted a short tribute on X celebrating his father’s 67th birthday. Alongside a racing emoji, Matthew wrote:
“Happy birthday dad. I am still your number #1 fan 🏁”
The post quickly drew attention from fans of NASCAR Hall of Famer, but it was Mark Martin’s response that truly stole the spotlight. He replied with just four words:
“Fan of the day 😀”
Mark Martin remains one of the most legendary drivers in NASCAR’s history, with numerous wins across NASCAR series. His legacy is built on professionalism and longevity. Even though he never earned a Cup title, his influence on the sport and on younger generations of drivers is undeniable.
When Mark Martin reveals his lost passion after NASCAR retirement
After stepping away from NASCAR in 2013, Mark Martin felt a sense of emptiness because the passion that had driven his life for three decades was suddenly gone, and it took time for him to rediscover that same excitement in his life.
Speaking to Kenny Wallace last year, Martin said:
“After I retired, I didn’t really have any passion, and it took me a while to find some passion like I had about race cars. I bring some things to the table, and then together we build something that is just magnificent. After two years, I start thinking about building a new one. And there’s a waiting; there’s a line for my old coaches.”
Mark Martin’s racing career was highlighted by his dominating five IROC championships, 40 Cup Series wins, and 49 Nationwide Series (now known as the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series). He ended his career as one of NASCAR’s greatest drivers, even without a Cup championship.
