Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Ferran Torres scored the winning goal in the 106th minute, securing Spain’s second men’s World Cup title and ending Argentina’s hopes of defending the trophy.
Following the final, Alcaraz met Yamal on the pitch and posed with the FIFA World Cup trophy. He also took pictures with Spain defender Pau Cubarsí, who won the FIFA Best Young Player Award, along with Wembenyama, Drake, Travis Scott, and others at the tournament.
The 23-year-old shared the photos on Instagram with the caption:

Carlos Alcaraz has been sidelined since mid-April with severe right wrist tenosynovitis, which he sustained during his opening match of the Barcelona Open. The injury has kept him out for more than three months, forcing him to miss major tournaments, including the Madrid Open, Rome Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and, most recently, the Montreal Open. The extended absence caused him to drop to World No. 3.
Carlos Alcaraz opened up about his withdrawal after the injury
After sustaining the right wrist injury at the Barcelona Open, Carlos Alcaraz underwent medical tests that confirmed right wrist tenosynovitis. Soon after, he announced that he would miss several upcoming tournaments. Sharing a photo from the court on Instagram, the Spaniard described it as a ‘difficult time’ and revealed his withdrawals in the caption, writing:
“After the results of the tests carried out today, we have decided that the most prudent thing to do is to be cautious and not participate in Rome or Roland Garros as we wait to evaluate the progress so we can decide when to return to the court. This is a difficult time for me, but I am sure we will come out of it stronger ❤️” wrote Carlos Alcaraz.
This post drew Rafael Nadal’s attention, who penned a sweet comment, wishing for the Spaniard’s speedy recovery. He wrote (translated from Spanish):
“Cheer up, Carlos! I hope you have the fastest recovery possible. These difficult moments put the value on everything you are doing. Much strength and a strong hug.”
After a break of almost three months, Carlos Alcaraz is expected to return to action at the Cincinnati Open before the US Open.
