Fellow Truck Series contender Corey Heim wasn’t happy about NASCAR shortening the Fr8 Racing 208. The TRICON Garage standout called it “stupid” when NASCAR waved the White Flag at 4:20 pm ET, and ended the race just a few laps short of its originally scheduled lap total.
Saturday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race was first halted, then shortened due to inclement weather at EchoPark Speedway this weekend. Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch won the race, marking his third consecutive victory at the 1.54-mile, quad-oval track that used to be known as Atlanta Motor Speedway until June 3, 2025.
According to its “adverse conditions” rule, if the sunset is approaching or if the track has no light, the drivers will have just two laps remaining, regardless of how many laps were actually left in the ongoing race at the time. After finishing fifth in a 36-car field, the defending series champion told reporter Peter Stratta (via X),
“Just reminds me of growing up racing quarter midgets when you had a curfew. Just feels like I’m a little kid again and you get told your race is getting cut short. Just stupid. We spend so much money to come out here and race for our sponsors and we don’t even really get a chance to race for the win.”
Heim also pointed out that he had received no prior information about NASCAR’s decision to cut the race short. All thanks to Mother Nature for cornering the sanctioning body and compromising the 135-lap event.
Corey Heim comments on Michael Jordan’s presence at 23XI Racing
Besides his full-time job in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, Corey Heim is also involved with 23XI Racing as a part-time Cup Series driver. Last year, Heim made four Cup Series starts for 23XI, including a P6 finish at Bristol.
This year, 23XI Racing has a 12-race schedule in place for Corey Heim. On that note, the 23-year-old speedster commented on how involved his 23XI boss, Michael Jordan, was in the daily operations of his team.
“He’s a lot more involved than most people think. After pretty much every truck win last year, he reached out to me with congratulations, and every time I ran good, bad, or indifferent in a Cup car, he’d reach out and share some words. I always thought that was motivating to have an owner, but also an owner that’s very involved and motivated.”
Next up for Corey Heim is the OnlyBulls Green Flag 150 at St. Petersburg, Florida. Scheduled for this Saturday, February 28, the 80-lap feature will be televised on FOX, starting at 12 pm ET. Fans can also watch live updates on NASCAR Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
