Layne Riggs shed light on his Cup Series plans for 2027. The Truck Series regular ruled out a debut this year, but hopes to make a ‘splash’ with winning machinery next season.
Riggs is currently leading the Truck Series standings with a 44-point margin. The Front Row Motorsports driver already has four wins this season, the most of any driver yet.
The No.34 driver has his sights set on the 2026 regular season title and believes his team has the pace to nab it. Looking beyond, however, Riggs shared a rather uncertain outlook.
When asked if a Cup start in 2027 is a possibility, Riggs replied,
“It is, I’m working hard every day to try to make sure that happens, but no new news yet.”
It’s not looking great for a timeline and having to get your first start before the Chase starts in Cup,” Riggs said in a SiriusXM interview, “But at the same time. I want to make sure that I start with the Splash, the same kind of way I did with the Truck Series. I didn’t start with mediocre equipment. I made sure that my first race was in a truck that could win the race, and I waited for that opportunity and turn down some opportunities to make sure that that could have happened. So I hopefully I could put myself in that same spot here in the near future.”
Layne Riggs has been competing in NASCAR since 2022, driving part-time schedules with Halmar Freisen Racing before signing a multi-year deal with FRM in 2024. Riggs scored two wins that year and was named Rookie of the Year.
2025 was the first year that Riggs made the playoffs. He failed to make the final four on a tie-breaker against Kaden Honeycutt, who now trails him in second.
Layne Riggs lands pole start at North Wilkesboro Speedway

Layne Riggs recorded his sixth career pole on Friday’s qualifying at North Wilkesboro Speedway. The 24-year-old outpaced Carson Hocevar by a narrow margin of 0.016 seconds.
Riggs posted a lap time of 18.502 seconds against an average speed of 121.608 mph. Despite the feat, Riggs was shocked to land pole.
“I did not think that was going to be a pole lap. In our mock run, we weren’t good. I was really tight, like a 10 out of 10 tight,” he said via Yahoo Sports.
On Saturday, Layne Riggs faces stiff competition from Cup Series regulars Carson Hocevar, Christopher Bell, Chase Elliott, and reigning Truck Series champion Corey Heim.
Bell and Heim line up on the second row, while Elliott starts behind Gio Ruggiero in sixth. Shane van Gisbergen is also competing in the FaithFest 250. He qualified 19th with a lap time of 18.859s in the #71 Chevrolet Silverado.
