Mario Cristobal’s Miami Hurricanes are making waves in the offseason. Cristobal joined the program as head coach in 2022, and last year he recorded his most successful season with the Hurricanes so far.
Miami finished the season with a 13-3 overall record. They won the Cotton Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl on their way to the national championship game. The Canes lost 21-27 against the Indiana Hoosiers in the final.
Despite the loss, it was a remarkable season for Miami and their first final appearance in over two decades. But the job’s not done yet. Cristobal is still hunting the national title, and he’s making some interesting moves to get there.
Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong recently shared his thoughts on how the Hurricanes are doing in the recruitment cycle. As per Wiltfong, they are “on the verge of getting red-hot on the recruiting trail.
He believes that Eli Woodard, the star receiver who recently backed off his commitment to USC, is headed to Miami. The Canes are also frontrunners to sign linebacker AJ Randle Jr. as well.
“Randle is also looking at Florida, Ohio State, Oregon, and South Carolina, but it’s the Hurricanes who are trending for the No. 5 linebacker and No. 57 prospect overall in the Rivals300,” he wrote.
Miami has everything that a program needs to attract players. Their last season run serves as an example of the potential that they have. Cristobal has established himself as a great coach, and the program helps develop NFL-caliber talent.
As a result, they have been able to flip players like Ai’King Hall and Jayvon Dawson. Miami currently has 13 commits in the 2027 class.
Mario Cristobal’s Biggest Takeaway from Last Season
Last week, Mario Cristobal joined the ACC PM team to speak about the Hurricanes, their preparation for the next season, and his biggest takeaway from last season. He said that his team is hungrier than ever.
When asked what the biggest takeaway is about the hunger to get his team back, Cristobal said:
“That it’s higher than ever before, that our team is more focused and more driven, that it is player-led but it is also led by a staff that understands that just because we achieved some really great things last year, we’re not gonna automatically pickup in the same spot.”
Cristobal’s not taking last season’s run for granted. He understands that his team will have to fight their way to the top again and put themselves in the position to compete for the title.
