University of Kansas head football coach Lance Leipold and his family have another reason to celebrate off the football field. His daughter, Lindsey Leipold, is now engaged.
Leipold’s wife, Kelly, shared the news of her daughter’s engagement on X, posting pictures where Lindsey said “yes” to Bellarmine Knights University baseball assistant coach Seth Sweet-Chick.
According to Kelly, it was supposed to be a “planned” family vacation photo shoot, but Sweet-Chick had another sweet idea in mind.
“What was to be a “planned” vacation family photo shoot turned into a beautiful proposal to our daughter @lindsey_leipold from @sethrsweet 💍🥂🍾 @CoachLeipold and I are beyond excited to watch this wonderful love story continue to grow into a fascinating lifetime together!” Kelly wrote on X.
Lindsey is a former volleyball player at Stetson University. She played setter/libero from 2018-21 and earned recognition on the ASUN Academic Honor Roll. After graduating, she completed her MBA while working full-time.
Meanwhile, Leipold joined Kansas in 2021 as head coach.
Kansas HC Lance Leipold Shared Health Update on Wife Kelly
Late last year, Kansas head coach Lance Leipold shared that Kelly was diagnosed with breast cancer. When Leipold shared, Kelly’s surgery had yet to be performed.
After Kelly’s surgery, two weeks later in November, Leipold revealed how the procedure went and that his wife was recovering.
“She had surgery last week and is recovering now,” Leipold said. “But appreciate your thoughts. She’s tough. You know, it’s kind of sad that you’ve got to schedule family surgeries around open weeks and stuff like that.”
Leipold also showed his gratitude towards the support shown by friends and family.
“I think, you know, she’s doing fine,” he added. “It’s been a long fall. It has been. And appreciate everyone that’s reached out, people that have helped contribute to what she thought was really important.”
In order to help people going through similar conditions, the Leipold family donated $50K to the Masonic Cancer Alliance, as part of the crowdfunding campaign. It will help women get a particular screening done that uncovered Kelly’s cancer in the first place.
“This has been something that she’s wanted to do, and going from there,” Leipold said. “And we appreciate everyone that has reached out, and thoughts and prayers. And we have great faith in the Lord, and we have great faith in the people at KU Med for the services and treatments that are coming.”
Leipold can now shift his focus to the 2026 football season, where he’ll hope for the Jayhawks to do well.
