College Football 27 is here, but only for those who paid more. The EA Play subscription allowed fans to try the game for 10 hours, starting on Thursday. The trial drop allowed players with EA Play to experience the game before those who pre-ordered the $99.99 deluxe edition, which was more than the standard $69.99 version.
With fans getting their hands on the game on Thursday, reactions posted online were also early, and sentiment appeared to be mixed. Some fans expressed enjoyment. Others expressed disappointment.
Some fans were so immediately turned off by the game that they went back to Madden.
EA Play is $5.99 per month or $39.99 per year. EA Play Pro costs $16.99 per month or $119.99 per year. The $5.99-per-month commitment allows fans to experience the game’s trial. EA claimed that subscribing to EA Play will save fans 10% on preorders, so if one is able to pre-order a game on their respective console through the service, the savings would pay for the first month.
College Football 27 Makes Attempt to Reverse Reviews Decline
As the third game in the newly revived franchise, College Football 27 was the first to either set or reverse an emerging pattern of declining review scores. According to Metacritic, College Football 25 received a cumulative critic rating of 83 and a user score of 5.6. In 2025, College Football 26 received a cumulative critic rating of 82 and a user score of 4.7.
User scores and critic ratings have not been posted to the site yet, but fans will know in the coming days whether College Football 27 managed to reverse the decline or continue it. EA has every reason to hope for a hit, especially with the digital version.
Next year, EA will need to decide whether to release a physical copy of the unannounced but likely next game in the series on PlayStation, with Sony announcing an end to discs starting January 2028.
