Dabo Swinney added a four-star safety to the Clemson Tigers roster. It’s a major victory for Swinney and the Tigers because some of the biggest programs were in line to sign safety Jarrell Chandler.
The 6’3, 210 safety had to choose from Kirby Smart’s Georgia, Tennessee, Miami, and Vanderbilt. Clemson made the right moves at the right time to land the No. 91 prospect as per Rivals300.
After the initial offer, the Tigers waited for the right opportunity. Last week, defensive coordinator Tom Allen and safeties coach Thomas Allen spent a lot of time with Chandler and managed to change the direction of the recruitment.
During his conversation with Rivals, Chandler had a lot of great things to say about the Clemson Tigers. He was amazed by their presentation and talked about what the program has to offer.
“They really just had an amazing presentation for me of fit, and it just kind of refreshed my memory on what Clemson’s all about,” he said. “We went over the defensive scheme, my fit, and what they see my trajectory as getting on the field. Coach Allen really emphasized to me that he thinks my skill set fits his defense as a big, athletic safety.”
There are a few things that stood out for Chandler during his meeting with the Clemson coaches. The four-star safety said that he saw their vision and was impressed by how he was positioned in their defense.
“Their vision of me in their defense really stood out. They like me a big safety, they have a plan for me, and they really want to develop me. They really wanted me,” he added.
That interest from Clemson helped Chandler make his decision and choose Clemson over some of the biggest programs in the country.
Dabo Swinney’s Philosophy Stood Out for Jarrell Chandler
Swinney is known for helping develop people before he starts developing the player. The long-standing philosophy stood out to Chandler. The four-star safety said that he will look forward to experiencing that.
“What’s always caught my eye about Clemson is Dabo’s main thing has always been developing the person, not just the player,” he said. “I really think that’s something I look forward to. They can help me grow as a man and not just a football player.”
Another thing that helped Chandler make this decision was the detail-oriented approach from Clemson. They had tapes, draft picks, and more ready for him to back their claims.
