Mario Cristobal is known for his recruitment skills, and over the years, he has had some incredible recruiting seasons. In 2026, the Miami Hurricanes head coach is proving himself once again while adding valuable pieces to his roster.
Cristobal had a great run last season with the Hurricanes. It was his most successful season since joining the program in 2022. The Hurricanes finished with a 13-3 overall record, including 6-2 in the conference.
They won the Cotton Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl on their way to the national championship game. Despite having an otherwise great run, the Hurricanes ended the season with a loss in the title game against the Indiana Hoosiers.
Cristobal’s team was praised for their effort, but the job isn’t finished yet. The Miami head coach knows he has a real chance of clinching the title next season, but he will need some great, talented players to achieve that.
On his quest to strengthen the Miami roster, Cristobal has landed a four-star DL, Ezekiel Ayangbile. He is a 6’3 275 DL from Houston, and he had some great options in front of him to choose from.
As per Hayes Fawcett, Ayangbile chose Cristobal’s program over LSU and Virginia Tech. There’s no denying that Cristobal’s presence was a major influence in the DL’s decision. But he also likes the idea of being in Miami a lot.
“I’ve always had love for Miami. I love the vibe and a lot of things about the school,” he told Rivals. “The biggest thing with Miami is how dominant their DL is and how bad they wanna coach me.”
Ayangbile believes that the Miami Hurricanes have a great coaching staff, and he will be able to develop his game under their guidance.
Ezekiel Ayangbile Heaped Praise on Mario Cristobal and His Staff
During his conversation with Rivals, Ezekiel Ayangbile said that Mario Cristobal and his coaching staff have been very supportive and have made it clear that they believe he’s the right fit for the program.
He was impressed by how he was treated, and he walked away feeling great about his decision.
“They’ve been extremely supportive and tell me I’m wanted — that I was the missing piece for them. The position coach was shooting for me extremely hard since they recruited recruiting me and their track record is definitely one of the best, if not, the best at my position,” he said.
In his opinion, Miami is the best place for him to develop in his position and play football at the highest level.
