St. John’s head coach Rick Pitino reached an incredible milestone against his own son, Richard Pitino. Two of Rick’s toughest wins this season came against Richard’s Xavier Musketeers, the most recent being an 87-82 win at Madison Square Garden for a 10th consecutive victory this season. This marked the 904th win of Rick’s career, surpassing Roy Williams for third place in Division I history. He is now behind Mike Krzyzewski and Jim Boeheim.
However, during the contest, Richard lost his cool when the officials’ decision went against him. He was seen flipping the clipboard during a timeout. Rick mocked his son about the incident after the win. Posting on X, he said:
“Awesome job by Xavier players and staff at the Mecca, but I’m very embarrassed at my son for knocking that clipboard away. I taught you a lot better than that 😂😂😂😂😂😜.”
This was Rick Pitino’s second comeback victory in 17 days over his son Richard, who is a first-year coach. In their previous outing, Pitino secured his 900th career win after St. John’s rallied from a 16-point deficit in the second half for an 88-93 victory at Xavier.
Rick Pitino Extends Offer to Bad Bunny to Watch a College Basketball Game
While the Seattle Seahawks secured a 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, the spotlight was on Bad Bunny’s halftime performance, which was criticized by President Donald Trump on Truth Social.
“The Super Bowl Halftime Show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER. It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence. Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World.”
In stark contrast, St. John’s head coach Rick Pitino, who has deep ties to Puerto Rico from his time coaching their national team, showed support for the global superstar’s performance. Defending Bad Bunny, Pitino extended an invitation for the rapper to attend any Red Storm game.
