“That’s a Problem”: Will Wade’s Bare Minimum Task at LSU Stated as Program Makes Intentions Clear

Returning LSU Tigers coach Will Wade has been given a standard task by college sports analyst Matt Moscona to achieve in his first stint back at the helm of the Tigers coaching staff.

On Monday, it was announced that Wade would return to coach LSU after four seasons, following his lone year with the NC State Wolfpack in their recently concluded campaign.

In an audio clip from the “3 Man Front” podcast uploaded by @WJOX945 on X/Twitter, Moscona was asked about his thoughts on the expectation from Wade, now that he is back with the Tigers. For Moscona, it is a national tournament berth, as he believes that the program has given the tenured tactician all the resources for it.

“All I know is in a 68-team field with the resources LSU’s committing to Will Wade and basketball, if you’re not one of 68, that’s a problem. And in this era of portal and NIL and revenue share, it can’t. He just did at NC State. They went from a five-win conference team to being in the tournament in one year at NC State. He can do it. Knowing Will, that’s gonna be his expectation too,” Moscona shared. (0:58)

Wade is coming off what was his first and only year with the Wolfpack, where they finished with an overall record of 20-14 (10-8 ACC), and were eliminated in the First Four of this year’s March Madness. Meanwhile, the Tigers finished the 2025-26 season with a lowly overall record of 15-17 (3-15 SEC) and missed out on the national postseason entirely. They were coached by Matt McMahon.

Matt Moscona Claims That The NC State Wolfpack Is Better For Basketball Coaches Than The LSU Tigers

On the same podcast, Matt Moscona made a bold claim, saying that the NC State Wolfpack is a better school for the job of basketball coaches than the LSU Tigers.

According to Moscona, the Louisiana-based program’s focus is always on football, as they had to pull all of the strings to get a coach of Wade’s stature back to LSU.

“They have committed so much to get Will Wade back, right? I mean, he left a better basketball job to come back to LSU. That’s not even debatable. NC State is a better basketball job, a traditional basketball conference in a place where they prioritize basketball. That’ll never be the case here. It’ll never be prioritized over football. But Will came here and the governor and the chairman of the board and the university president, they pulled all their weight to get to get this done,” Moscona said. (0:19)
