Michigan fans may have been concerned about holding on to their key players that won them the NCAA Championship in April after it became clear that head coach Dusty May was moving on to the NBA. That concern would have spread to players being signed this transfer portal, too, but they seem to have received a major boost with big man Moustapha Thiam reportedly committing his immediate future to the Wolverines.
Joe Tipton of On3 reports that Thiam will play for the Michigan Wolverines in the 2026-27 season, despite May moving on.
Fans joined in the conversation, commenting about the reasons behind Thiam sticking with the Wolverines.
Dusty May Was Very High on Moustapha Thiam
Dusty May was the man behind Moustapha Thiam being recruited out of the transfer portal, and he wasn’t shy to admit what he saw in the 7-foot-2-inch star.
“Moustapha is someone we’re really excited about,” May said, per On3, once he had signed.
“You don’t find many players of his size and ability to move the way he does. He protects the rim, rebounds, runs the floor, and changes the game defensively. He’s still improving, too, so we’re ready to get to work.”
