Fans in Splits as VCU Band Director Trolls UNC With Controversial Michael Jordan Move

UNC played the VCU Rams in the first round matchup of the NCAA Tournament. Coming off a good season in the Atlantic Coast Conference, fans were expecting the North Carolina Tar Heels to win the game and proceed to the second round.

The VCU Rams, however, had different plans. Despite losing control of the game in the first half, trailing 28-39, the Rams managed to bounce back and scored 47 in the second half. The game went into overtime.

The Rams outscored UNC 7-3 in overtime and won the game, making the Tar Heels take an early exit from the tournament. While the on-court competition during the game was top-notch, VCU’s band director decided to get in on the action.

The Rams played the Illinois Fighting Illini today in the second round.VCU’s band director was seen wearing a Michael Jordan jersey while leading the band. Jordan represented the Tar Heels from 1981 to 1984 and won the NCAA title in 1982.

ESPN recently posted an image of VCU’s band director on social media, and the fans loved the effort put into trolling UNC right after they kicked them out of the tournament.

“VCU band director out here collecting souls like it’s overtime 😅 Jordan jersey after sending UNC home is cold-blooded,” a fan wrote.

“Winning gives you the right to troll… can’t even be mad,” a fan wrote.

“Rocking a Michael Jordan UNC jersey right after sending the Tar Heels home? Ultimate troll move by VCU,” a fan wrote.

“That’s savage… eliminate UNC and then pull up in a Jordan jersey,” a fan wrote.

“This is the energy I want to bring to a function,” a fan wrote.

The VCU fans’ joy was short-lived as they lost to Illinois today. Even though defeating UNC will remain one of the season highlights for them, losing 55-76 in the second round will sting.

    UNC Might Fire Hubert Davis

Hubert Davis has been the head coach of the Tar Heels, his alma mater, since 2021. While he has had a good run, going 12-54 overall, including 68-30 in the conference, Davis hasn’t been able to bring in the trophies that UNC expects.

The first-round NCAA Tournament exit has made things worse for him. As per CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, the program might soon part ways with him.

“The Tar Heels’ administration, including the Chancellor are evaluating all aspects of the school’s basketball program and will continue to have discussions over the coming days,” North Carolina athletic director Bubba Cunningham told Rothstein.

UNC has now exited the NCAA Tournament in the first round in back to back season. The rumors about parting ways with him are being backed by the fans as well.
