LeBron James has joined the Philadelphia 76ers after months of speculation about his future in the NBA. The Philly roster is looking great after this addition, and no one is happier about it than Tyrese Maxey.
As per ESPN, Maxey, Joel Embiid, and Jaylen Brown were also involved in bringing James to Philadelphia. After a successful recruitment, Maxey is now comparing himself to Arkansas head coach John Calipari, under whom he played a year of college basketball at Kentucky.
“I’m like Coach Cal,” Maxey wrote on the video he posted, celebrating and hyping up the LeBron James news while working out in a gym.
Philadelphia has had a good team for years, but it hasn’t been able to convert it into a championship run. The team’s last championship win was in 1983, and with James on the roster now, the Sixers will start dreaming of winning their fourth title.
ESPN’s Shams Charania revealed that James has signed a two-year, $8 million deal with a player option. James will turn 42 in December, and this is going to be his final stretch in the NBA, looking for his fifth NBA title.
Last season for the Los Angeles Lakers, James averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists during the regular season while shooting over 51% from the field.
During the playoffs, he improved his numbers to 23.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 7.3 assists on 45.9% shooting from the field.
The Philadelphia 76ers now have a strong core with LeBron James, Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, and Jaylen Brown. They also have VJ Edgecomb, Dean Wade, Jabari Walker, and others who can step up for the team.
LeBron James Considered Retirement
LeBron James posted a long message on X, sharing what he was thinking about over the past few weeks. Despite his ability to still play at a high level, the 41-year-old was considering retirement.
“I thought I was done when the season ended. I wasn’t ready to announce it, and I knew I needed some time to really decide, but I was pretty sure I played my last game. I was honest at that last press conference when I said I needed to look at myself and deicide if I still love this game. I still truly love this game, and I have more to give,” he wrote.
After talking to people close to him for weeks, he decided to make one final run in the league. James made it clear that his decision wasn’t motivated by money or any external factor. Winning a championship is the only reason why he’s still willing to lace up.
