Tyran Stokes’ High School Coach Makes Bold LeBron James Statement as Kansas Seal Commitment

Tyran Stokes is heading to the Kansas Jayhawks after months of teasing a potential move to the Kentucky Wildcats, and in many ways, the world is glad that the wait is over.

Fans of Kentucky were hoping for a miracle, but it seems like Stokes’ mind was made up a long time ago, and that Kansas was his only real destination. This became all the more clear when Bill Self decided he was going to continue being the head coach of the Jayhawks, now recruiting another top name after doing the business with Darryn Peterson.

And it seems everyone is happy for Tyran Stokes and praising the top recruit in the 2026 class, though one man’s opinion definitely stands out among the rest.

And that would be the opinion of one of Stokes’ former coaches, with Rainier Beach head coach, Mike Bethea making an explosive claim about his former protege’s career that few might want to argue with as things stand.

Bethea has surely got the attention of the world with his claim that Stokes is what LeBron James would have been if he ended up going to college instead of going pro in 2003, when he was signed by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

“You might be seeing what would have happened if LeBron had gone to college,” Bethea said, as reported by Paul Biancardi of ESPN.

Stokes Has All the Tools to Succeed at Kansas

The LeBron James comparison might feel a bit rushed, but it certainly isn’t wrong. Stokes has an explosiveness to his game that is coupled with a maturity far beyond his years, and Kansas will look to make the most of that as he starts his college career this season.

If there’s anyone feeling down about this decision though, it has to be Kentucky head coach Mark Pope, who thought he had a shot at grabbing Stokes at a time when the side from Lexington can’t catch a break.
