Purdue Coach Matt Painter Registered His 500th Win

Matt Painter played for the Purdue Boilermakers from 1989 to 1993. Nearly a decade later, he came back to his alma mater as an assistant head coach. In 2005, he became the head coach of the program.

He reached his 500th overall win as a head coach earlier in the season, but the win against Miami marked a special milestone. Painter has now won 500 games as the head coach of the Boilermakers. He holds a 500-223 overall record at the school.

“These guys — I know coaches talk about it — but they’ve put in so much in all areas to be the best they can be,” he said. “That’s how you end up getting a lot of victories, because you have really good players that are committed.”

This is Purdue’s back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances. While it’s a moment of celebration for the head coach, he is focused on winning against the Texas Longhorns.
