After his latest campaign came to a premature end in the postseason, Florida Gators coach Todd Golden has a ton of options for the next year.
On Tuesday, March 24, @exclusivecbb on Instagram shared a report about coach Golden’s potential landing spots at the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Kansas Jayhawks.
As it stands, Golden signed his second deal in two years in May of 2025, fresh off his 2025 national championship run. With five years left on the deal, his potential buyout, if he leaves before April 15 of this year, will be $16 million. In the Instagram post, a quote from the University of Florida athletic director, Scott Stricklin, is included, where he confirmed that the school will pursue renewing Golden’s contract.
“UPDATE: With potential job openings at North Carolina and Kansas, Florida is attempting to sign HC Todd Golden to a contract extension, per The Associated Press’s Mark Long. ‘When we have talented, successful coaches, we’re going to do everything we can to make sure they know that they are appreciated at the University of Florida,’ AD Scott Stricklin said. ‘We’ve given Todd new contracts each of the last two years,'” @exclusivecbb on Instagram captioned.
“‘He’s a priority for the University of Florida, and we’re going to treat him as such.’ Golden signed a new deal in May (his second in two years) and still has five years remaining. His buyout – if he leaves for another school before April 15 – is $16M,” the post continued.
As previously mentioned, Todd Golden already has a deal that was extended before the 2025-26 season. Golden is likely to be given another deal in the 2026 offseason. The Florida-based program is hell-bent on keeping Golden despite potential openings, especially with coach Hubert Davis getting fired at UNC.

Coach Todd Golden and the Florida Gators are no longer in contention for the national championship after they were eliminated in just the second round of the South Region of the 2026 NCAA tournament.
This came through a gut-wrenching one-point loss, 73-72, to coach Ben McCollum’s Iowa Hawkeyes on Sunday, March 22, at the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida.
