Florida Gators coach Todd Golden recently reacted to rival program Kentucky Wildcats’ highly criticized roster. On Sunday, Feb. 15, Golden and the rest of his Gators defeated Mark Pope’s Wildcats 92-83 on the former’s home court, the Stephen C. O’Connell Center in Gainesville, Florida.
During the post-game press conference, Golden was asked about his thoughts on coach Pope’s $22 million squad as a whole. This is because reports surfaced during the 2025 offseason that Pope and his coaching staff had a budget of the aforementioned amount for NIL opportunities that was used for player recruitment and player offerings.
Golden knows how talented a roster the team possesses, especially since he knows their worth. He believes that they can do great things at the tail end of the current campaign. Golden says this in the context of him and his Gators aiming for a national title repeat since they are the defending national champions.
“ They’re playing some good ball. They’re talented, obviously, $22 million roster. They’re physical. They’re big and, you know, I expect them to do well the rest of the year. They’re a really good team,” Golden said.

As it stands, Golden and his Gators squad have uncorked an overall record of 19-6 (10-2 SEC), which has them sitting as the top seed of the SEC standings. Pope and the Wildcats possess a 17-8 (8-4 SEC) record, and they are the third seed in the same conference standings. Florida will face the South Carolina Gamecocks next on Tuesday, Feb. 17, while Kentucky goes up against the Georgia Bulldogs on the same day.
The Florida Gators Beat The Kentucky Wildcats By Nine Points
Coach Todd Golden’s comments towards Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats actually come in the context of Golden’s Florida Gators defeating Pope’s Wildcats by nine points, 92-83.
Both teams scored the same number of points in the second half, but that’s all that the Gators needed to do as they already led in the first half, 43-34.
