Todd Golden Drops Fiery Response for Charles Bediako’s Return Ahead of Florida vs Alabama Clash

The upcoming SEC showdown between Florida and Alabama has escalated beyond a typical conference rivalry, largely driven by a controversial legal ruling involving Charles Bediako.

While the Alabama center’s return via a temporary restraining order was expected to dominate the headlines, Florida head coach Todd Golden has shifted the focus with a blistering critique of the legal process itself. Golden suggested that the ruling allowing Bediako to play was not a matter of impartial justice, but rather the result of local influence.

Golden did not mince words about the circumstances surrounding the court’s decision. He alleged a direct conflict of interest in the judicial proceedings that cleared the way for Bediako’s return. Golden said:

“They were able to finagle it where they got a judge in Alabama that’s actually a donor in Alabama to write a temporary restraining order…”

Despite the alleged off-court manoeuvring, Golden made it clear that his team’s confidence remains unshaken. He offered a defiant guarantee of victory, dismissing the impact of Bediako’s presence in the lineup and ensuring that the atmosphere for the game would be incredibly hostile. He added:

“We’re gonna beat them anyways. If he plays, we’ll beat them anyways.”

Florida Gators Center Rueben Chinyelu is Named SEC Player of the Week

Florida center Rueben Chinyelu has earned SEC Player of the Week honors following a dominant stretch where he anchored the Gators to an undefeated run, including wins over ranked opponents. The junior big man played some of the best basketball of his career, highlighted by back-to-back double-doubles in a road win at Oklahoma and a statement victory against Vanderbilt, where he posted a season-high 20 points.

His impact was felt on both ends of the floor, combining elite rim protection with impressive efficiency, including a near 64% field goal percentage and a stellar 14-for-15 mark from the free-throw line in January.

Chinyelu has solidified his status as one of the nation’s most productive centers, currently averaging a double-double with 11.8 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. Building on his role as a starter during Florida’s national championship run last season, the former Washington State transfer has taken a significant leap forward as a junior, evolving into a consistent offensive threat.

Head coach Todd Golden has increasingly relied on Chinyelu’s poise in high-leverage moments, crediting his physical screening and finishing ability for bringing essential balance to the Gators’ offense.
