Mark Pope Extends Offer to Top 10 Recruit and Former Bengals Star’s Son DeMarcus Henry: Report

Mark Pope has extended a scholarship offer to DeMarcus Henry. This happened immediately after the standout prospect’s debut performance in Memphis at Nike EYBL Session II. Henry is a top 10 recruit.

There has been a lot of chatter about Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats missing out on signing key players this year. There are valid reasons for those conversations as well. However, Pope has recovered from the initial setback.

Pope watched Henry drop a 25-point performance in Memphis, and he immediately knew that he wanted to have him on his squad. The news about the offer was soon confirmed by Henry with a post on X.

“After a great conversation with Coach Mark Pope, I’m thankful to receive an offer from the University of Kentucky,” he wrote.

Prior to the event where he dropped 25 points, Henry was averaging 16.3 points, 12.7 rebounds, 2.7 blocks, 2.3 assists, and 1.3 steals. He shoots at an impressive 48.6% from the field. These stats prove that he could be effective on both ends. Henry is the son of late NFL wide receiver Chris Henry, who played for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Henry’s potential has been recognized by members of the media as well. Rivals’ Jamie Shaw heaped praise on him in his report last month.

“The weekend started out with a bang for DeMarcus Henry, and things did not let up for his production,” he wrote. “Henry is still figuring out his game, how he consistently scores, and rounding out his skills to get to his spots on the floor. With that, the production he consistently gives is hard to ignore. This weekend was no different, as he put up numbers across the board.”

The talented youngster has secured a major offer, and it’s still only the beginning of his journey in basketball.

Mark Pope Would Make Some Recruiting Changes

Pope recently did an online Q&A session with Kentucky fans. He received thousands of questions and was impressed by the participation from the Wildcats basketball community.

One fan asked him about the underwhelming recruitment cycle this year. Pope addressed the question and listed out the changes he’d like to make.

“The first change, I’d like to get all 20 kids to visit our campus,” he said. “That’s a major win, and there’s no limit. Second, I’d like to land a few. Third, this year, we were chasing a generational talent, and we fell a little short, but we weren’t sitting on our hands.”

Pope said that he was confident in the roster he has put together and that the fans would enjoy watching them at Rupp Arena.
