Jon Scheyer represented the Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team as a player from 2006 to 2010. He won the NCAA title in his final year and made the First-team All-ACC and Consensus second-team All-American.
After going undrafted in the 2010 NBA Draft, Scheyer played in the G League and foreign leagues before coming back to join his alma mater in 2014 as an assistant. After nine years, he became the head coach of the program.
Scheyer boasts a 117-24 overall record as a head coach. In the last two seasons, his team has secured the first seed in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The program has rewarded Scheyer for his team’s continued dominance.
In October last year, he signed an extension deal with the Blue Devils through the 2030-31 season. His previous extension had locked him with the program until 2028-29, but the program offered him another extension before his last one expired.
The official value of his contracts isn’t revealed publicly. As per estimates, Scheyer makes around $7 to $8 million from his contract, especially after the extension deal that he signed. Regardless, it’s safe to assume he has signed a lucrative deal.
The 38-year-old took his team to the NCAA Division I regional champion – Final Four last year. Under his leadership, the Blue Devils have won two ACC tournaments in 2023 and 2025. They also hold two ACC regular-season championships, in 2025 and 2026.
Why Did Duke Extend Jon Scheyer’s Tenure?
The legendary Mike Krzyzewski retired following the end of the 2021–22 season, leaving behind a legacy that could intimidate anyone. So, when Scheyer stepped up to the role, he had some big shoes to fill.
It didn’t take long for Scheyer to prove that he was a worthy successor to Coach K. As soon as he started showing results, the program backed him by offering extension deals.
“Jon’s remarkable impact over his first three seasons has positioned Duke Basketball for sustained excellence, and we are proud to ensure his leadership well into the future,” Duke vice president Nina King said.
“He has delivered championships and national prominence, and he continues to lead a program built on character, connection and a relentless pursuit of greatness.”
King praised Scheyer’s vision for Duke Basketball and stated that it aligns perfectly with the legacy of the program. Prioritizing the Blue Devils’ long-term growth and dominance, Duke decided to go with Scheyer as its long-term coach.
