Luka Bogavac’s Display Leaves Clemson HC Brad Brownell Frustrated as Players Don’t Follow Orders in Defeat

The Clemson Tigers suffered a 67-63 loss against North Carolina at Chapel Hill and head coach Brad Brownell believes the chemistry within the team played a role in the loss.

Brownell conceded that UNC’s Luka Bogavac made the difference in the end. Coming off the bench, Bogavac scored 20 points in 23 minutes, shooting 6-10 from the three-point line.

After the game, Brownell said he told his players during timeouts that the Tar Heels were continuously going to Bogavac. However, the Tigers players still allowed Bogavac to get separation and shoot uncontested 3s.

“I’m disappointed because we talked about it in a couple timeouts, like ‘They’re going to him,'” Brownell said. “He made a bunch of shots, he’s a good player. He’s an outstanding shooter on the turn. Runaway shooters are special because they can make some guarded ones. If you have separation and you’re not connected, he’s athletic, he can jump up and shoot some in. And we had that happen a couple times.”

Brownell said he was frustrated with his team early on, and that they switched on too late.

“Once we got our guys back where we needed to be in terms of focus, I thought our defense was terrific the last 35 minutes of the game … this was a missed opportunity,” the head coach added.

Up next for Clemson is the regular-season finale at home against Georgia Tech. The Tigers are fourth in the ACC with an 11-6 conference record and 21-9 overall.
