The reason behind the recent firing of Kansas State Wildcats coach Jerome Tang has been revealed by a program higher-up just days after Tang’s infamous rant. On Sunday, Feb. 15, Kansas State University announced that coach Tang had been relieved of his duties as the team’s main tactician.
This came after Tang delivered a fiery rant at his players after Kansas State’s 91-62 loss to the Cincinnati Bearcats last week. Athletic director Gene Taylor has come forward with the reason for the firing, saying that Tang’s actions were not aligned with those of the school.
“This was a decision that was made in the best interest of our university and men’s basketball program. Recent public comments and conduct, in addition to the program’s overall direction, have not aligned with K-State’s standards for supporting student-athletes and representing the university. We wish Coach Tang and his family all the best moving forward,” Taylor was quoted as saying.
Tang steps away from the Wildcats after being the program’s head coach for the past three and a half years, with his first season coming in 2022-23. So far in the 2025-26 season, Kansas State holds an overall record of 10-15, but has only one win in 12 tries against Big 12 teams.
Jerome Tang Said He Was Embarrassed Of His Players In Their Cincinnati Bearcats Loss
In a post-game press conference rant that Jerome Tang delivered, he talked about how embarrassed he was of his players and their efforts against the Cincinnati Bearcats.
Tang even said that his players do not deserve to wear the Kansas State Wildcats jerseys and that he feels bad for the Kansas State faithful in attendance for the aforementioned game.
“ This was embarrassing. These dudes do not deserve to wear this uniform. There will be very few of them in it next year, like I’m embarrassed for the university. I’m embarrassed for our fans, our student section, you know, it is just ridiculous. We got practice at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, and we will get this thing right,” Tang shared.
