“Hubert Davis Spent $2M On This Guy”: Former UNC HC’s Fans React As Transfer Portal Recruit Announces Career Decision

With the college basketball season over, it’s time for the transfer portal to dominate the headlines and the North Carolina Tar Heels should be worried after the latest update. The Tar Heels, who fired Hubert Davis on the back of a first-round exit in the NCAA Tournament, are bound to witness multiple departures.

Junior guard Kyan Evans has become the latest departure out of Chapel Hill as he enters the transfer portal. In his only season with UNC, the guard averaged 4.0 points, 2.5 assists, and 1.2 rebounds in 33 games, including 17 starts. Now, he is looking to join his third program in his fourth year.

Though Davis is no longer associated with North Carolina, he was mentioned in one comment for his excessive spending resulting in no notable dividend.

“Hubert spent 2 million on this guy by the way,” one fan wrote.

“UNC will have a totally new roster next season,” another fan predicted.

“New coach who no one knows Cares, and now players are transferring… awesome coach so far huh ? 🙄🙄🙄” one fan added.

“Wasn’t worth that 2 milly at all 😂😂😂😂” one fan reacted.

“@FBI Please investigate he robbed UNC for $2 million in broad daylight,” one fan commented.

“Attempting to make Evans a starting PG in the ACC was the issue. He will have success and return to form if he moves back to the 2 wherever he lands,” one fan noted.

“He need to go back to division 2,” one fan suggested.

UNC Criticized For Firing Hubert Davis Without Any Future Plans

The transfer portal is here, but there is no one to talk on UNC’s behalf after the program fired Hubert Davis. CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein believes Davis’ decision was made without thinking it through. The analyst also claims Davis should not have been fired at all, highlighting his regular-season wins against notable programs.

“I did not think he should have been fired at all because I did an interview with him on this show the Thursday before North Carolina was going to play its regular season finale against Duke,” Rothstein said. “North Carolina was 24-6. North Carolina had beaten Duke and Kansas and won road games at Kentucky and Virginia.”

Rothstein mentioned Caleb Wilson’s injury, making it unfortunate for North Carolina to perform well in the postseason without him. He believes no head coach could have done better than Davis in these circumstances as well. Rothstein senses worry for the program going into the transfer portal:

“We are 12 days away, or we are 12 days removed, excuse me, from when North Carolina fired Hubert Davis. They’re not close to having a coach, not close. And the longer this goes, the worse that it looks because I’ll tell you this much. I don’t think they’re getting Dusty May. If I’m betting right now, my net worth, I don’t think they’re getting Billy Donovan. And then I think you have to ask yourself the question, if you are North Carolina’s administration, we’re going to pay $10 million to get Mark Buyington or Grant McCasland?”

The Tar Heels need to fast-track their hiring of a head coach before they start losing elite talent in the portal.
