Dylan Mingo has made his decision and has chosen to commit to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, for his collegiate career ahead. The decision had narrowed down to four schools, including the Baylor Bears, the Tar Heels, Penn State, and the Washington Huskies. But UNC seemed to have resonated the best with him.
Earlier, he had stated in an interview with Rivals how he looked up to the legacy left behind by icons like Michael Jordan and Joel Barry for UNC. Mingo added that if he committed to this school, he would love to see himself go down the same path as Jordan and Berry. However, he has now stated the true inspiration for him to pick North Carolina.
“I felt like now was the right time and what made it the right time for the decision is the way seeing Caleb Wilson and Seth Trimble wear the North Carolina blue on their chest with so much pride. It shows the true culture they have there,” Mingo told insider Paul Biancardi.
It’s quite interesting to see the young five-star recruit taking inspiration from active collegiate-level players as well. Both Caleb Wilson and Seth Trimble are active players on the Tar Heels’ roster, with Wilson currently rehabilitating from a recent hand fracture. The Tar Heels reported that he is currently practicing with a cast and might return to action ‘soon.’
When is Caleb Wilson Returning From Injury?
A week back, Caleb Wilson suffered a fracture in his left hand during the first half of a loss against Miami. However, as per UNC coach Hubert Davis, the Tar Heels forward is expected to return soon. Wilson is currently playing with his non-shooting hand with a cast on. Davis says he’s been good so far in practice.
“Caleb, he is great,” Davis said Monday night on his semi-weekly radio show, per ESPN. “I think if I said ‘OK,’ I think he would play with his cast on or his splint. I think he would.”
Davis’ update comes just four weeks after UNC announced Wilson would be out ‘indefinitely.’ Though Wilson’s mid-game X-rays came back negative during the game against Miami, additional imaging revealed the fracture. He has been on a roll this season, averaging 19.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
Wilson’s performance so far is drawing him serious interest from NBA teams if he decides to declare for the upcoming draft this year.
