Charles Bediako may have played several games in the G-League, but he has since returned to college basketball and has been practicing with the Alabama Crimson Tide. This is despite him not legally allowed to play in NCAA games because he has turned pro already, and this goes against the governing body’s rules on student athletes playing professionally.
The current Alabama player has had brief stints with the San Antonio Spurs and other NBA teams before getting relegated to the G-League, where he actually played professionally. Despite this, Bediako eventually decided to return to college, playing for Alabama once again, raising complaints from other teams left and right. This led to his ban, but Crimson Tide head coach Nate Oats is standing by his player.
Alabama football insider Nick Kelly reported that Bediako had been working with Alabama players and was part of the scout team. He has also reportedly been going to class over at the University of Alabama and practicing with the rest of the team, but he just cannot play.
Charles Bediako managed to temporarily play for Alabama after a temporary court ruling, but was banned once again after a Tuscaloosa Circuit Court judge rejected his preliminary injunction filed against the NCAA. This means that he is not eligible to play anymore. Alabama went 3-2 with him in the roster, with big wins over Auburn and Missouri.
Nate Oats Reveals What Charles Bediako Is Doing After Return To Alabama
With Charles Bediako now unable to play, head coach Nate Oats says he is still a part of the team. He revealed that playing in college basketball in the US is a lot better than in the Euroleague, which was why Bediako chose to return to Alabama.
“Leaving here to go to the gym does not help you at all. There’s a reason that people are leaving the EuroLeague as pros to come to college basketball. It’s a better situation for them. They’re making more money than the EuroLeague. They’re able to work on their body better, we get better travel. We get better diet, nutrition, everything,” the coach said.
As for what is next for Bediako, Oats revealed that he is now focusing on finishing his college degree and is working with Alabama’s athletic training staff to get his body back to shape. He did not reveal if Bediako would try for the NBA again or play elsewhere.
