Michigan Wolverines head coach Dusty May is present for the Final Four clash between UConn and Illinois for a reason.
On Saturday, coach May and his Wolverines will face coach Tommy Lloyd’s Arizona Wildcats in the NCAA Final Four of this year’s national tournament on neutral grounds, the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In a video uploaded by @cbssports on Instagram the same day, May can be seen looking on to the Final Four game between the UConn Huskies and the Illinois Fighting Illini. Courtside reporter Tracy Wolfson revealed during the broadcast that coach May told her he’d rather catch the two teams live than on TV, especially since he wasn’t too familiar with UConn.
“ Not only are Michigan assistants here scouting, but Dusty May is as well. Very rare to see a head coach do that before a game. I went over, I talked to May, and he told me, with a quick turnaround, he wanted to see things live, especially because he’s not really that familiar with UConn. He wanted a fresh perspective, and he figured much better than sitting in the back watching it on TV,” Wolfson said.
“Might as well scout instead of watching on TV!,” @cbssports on Instagram captioned.
The winner between coach Dan Hurley’s Huskies and coach Brad Underwood’s Fighting Illini will face the victor from the Wolverines-Wildcats matchup. Coach May and company have national title aspirations this year, as they were one of the top seeds heading into the 2026 March Madness. They possess an overall record of 35-3 (19-1 Big Ten) and were the No. 1 seed in the Midwest region.
If the Wolverines make it to the national championship game, they will play for it on Monday, April 6, at the same venue.
