Some good news is on the horizon for Texas Tech fans as it appears that star forward JT Toppin will play in the 2026-27college basketball season after suffering a debilitating knee injury earlier this year. Many Tech fans, however, are using the opportunity to make other demands of their team.
The news of Toppin’s impending return was confirmed via a teaser video shared by the program’s social media account, showing him putting on a Red Raiders jersey in preparation for stepping onto the court.
Texas Tech fans flocked to the comments section to talk about how the squad still needs improvement to be competitive in the Big 12.
JT Toppin’s Injury Problems Explained
In February, JT Toppin suffered a brutal knee injury against Arizona State, abruptly ending his season.
The torn ACL injury was confirmed via an MRI by the school, but a return timeline seemed unclear. While some assumed he would be available for the start of the new campaign, other more conservative projections suggested he will miss the start of the new season and could be out for much longer still.
With the new 5-for-5 eligibility rule in play, Toppin can return at any point in the season, but the teaser clip suggests he could be on the court sooner rather than later.
